Apple’s Making It More Difficult To Download Popular Cracked Apps
Posted on December 31, 2011 |
BY A.T. Faust III on Fri December 30th, 2011 Apptrackr cracked apps installous piracy
apptrackr, the popular iOS piracy resource and maker of the jailbreak app Installous, has been feeling the wrath of justice of late. The crooks published news of Apple’s efforts to eradicate many of their website’s cracked apps, claiming the Cupertino company has been “scraping apptrackr for links and sending huge takedown notices for a ton of content.”
To combat this, the site has moved hosting duties to various international locales–ones, presumably, with less-defined legal copyright protection. However, such moves cost money, so apptrackr is implementing the use of ad-based CAPTCHAs on all outbound links (via iJailbreak):

Fortunately for Verizon iPhone owners, the carrier has recently announced that it has decided against charging customers an additional two dollars for one-time telephone and online payments.
A couple of days ago, Verizon Wireless announced that customers wishing to make one-time bill payments, either via telephone or online, would be charged an additional two dollars. The new rule was set to kick-in on January 15, and left many Verizon iPhone owners (most of which are already paying substantial monthly fees for their handset) absolutely and understandably outraged.
Hackers Manage To Port iOS Applications To The Apple TV

A team of iOS hackers (including Steve Troughton-Smith, @stroughtonsmith, and @TheMudKip) has managed to get numerous iOS applications and even the iOS SpringBoard to run on a second generation Apple TV.
Since the original launch of the Apple TV, one of its major criticisms has been the set-top box’s lack of support for third-party applications. Though it is possible to run plugins on the Apple TV and even stream an application from an iOS device to one’s TV screen (via AirPlay Mirroring), neither are quite the same as having full-blown third-party applications, as one does with the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch.
